The Best Facebook Business Pages That I Like - Zappos, Target and Britney Spears

May 14th, 2009 by Shuai | 1 Comment | Filed in social media

Facebook is hot within consumers and it’s  becoming hot for businesses too! Looking at all different Facebook business pages, the ones that I think are the best so far are Zappos, Target & Britney Spears (yes, it is a business page!…too bad that Facebook don’t have celebrity specific pages).

I like these pages because they utilize the most of the key elements of what a business Facebook page could do in a meaningful way. To give you some ideas, below are several reasons why they are good:

Zappos’ page has Twitter information on the Wall page, which can be seen easily. I tried to find Twitter information for other business pages and most of the time, it’s not there:

Zappos’ Boxes page is integrated with Zappos’ blog RSS feeds:

Both Zappos’ photo & video pages have lots of recent entries. Same as Target & Britney Spears pages:

Target’s Vote page has a nice campaign:

Britney’s event page lets you reserve all the concerts & events right on the page:

Feel free to share what your favorite Facebook Business pages are :)

Weekly Wrap Up “Mobile Thinking”: Pros and Cons Between Mobile Web and Mobile Apps, Money for Mobile Devlopers, Build Once and Deploy to Any, Follow the Mobile User, and One Ted Video

April 3rd, 2009 by Shuai | No Comments | Filed in mobile

This is my weekly mobile wrap up around “thinking”. You can find my weekly mobile wrap up around “trends” in a separate post. You can also check out my ongoing mobile news & event updates from my Mobile page.

  • Mobile Web or Mobile Apps?

Lots of people ask: should we build mobile web or mobile applications? It’s a common questions for everyone who is thinking of going mobile direction more. I found this article very informative.

It lists out the pros and cons between mobile web and mobile apps.

  • N2Y4 Mobile Challenge, Money for Mobile Developers Aiming to Change the World

The nonprofit N2Y4 Mobile Challenge from Netsquared is accepting project submissions from mobile developers through this month and will provide seed funding to a handful of lucky winners. The submissions so far are quite interesting. You can see some early submissions.

  • Can you build one mobile app once and deploy it to multiple mobile platforms?

This used to be my question. Apparently, some people are working on it. Rhomobile promises: Build once, deploy to any smartphone.

  • Follow the Mobile User, Thoughts from Vic Gundotra, Vice President of Engineering for Google’s mobile and developer products.

Focus on the mobile user, and all else will follow. Simpler data, better browsers, and a smoother experience.

You can also check out the other two mobile videos that I recently posted about ( Nokia Morph and MIT Sixsense Technology)

Google Is Getting My Heart This Week

November 20th, 2008 by Shuai | No Comments | Filed in web marketing

What can I say about Google? There are too many things we could argue about this giant Internet company. This week, two new features from them really made me happy :)

  1. the Gmail theme - Isn’t it nice that I can choose different skins for my Gmail. Some themes are dynamic, meaning they might change based on your location. I’m using the tea hour theme now. I’ll see if the sun goes down when it’s afternoon. Also see TechCrunch. Takeaway: sometime, one product wins, not only because of all the functional features that they provide, but also the little cute and emotional features that they bring to life.
  2. the Google Mobile applications - I wanted so bad to use Google map from cell phone. Here it comes! I can use Google map on my cell phone the way I use it online! It made my travel a lot easier when I need to find directions on the way, when I try to find a restaurant to meet friends, when I want to know the traffic sitting in the car…it is helpful! Check it out yourself. Takeaway: when something is helpful, it will be a great feature quickly no matter what it takes.

Project 10^100: Google is calling for ideas to help the world. How can you help?

September 29th, 2008 by Shuai | No Comments | Filed in inspiration

Help the world. Help the most people who need help. Reward the people who help others the most.

We all know these are the right and the great things to do. We do need to make efforts to make these good things happen in our real world. How big can you help?

Google is helping, regardless knowing the reason why they would do it. Google launched a site www.project10tothe100.com to ask for ideas that will help others. People post ideas; Google pick up 100 ideas for people to vote; people vote for the top 20 ideas from the 100; Google will give $10 million to each top 20 idea.

Here are the idea categories and criteria:

Categories:

  • Community: How can we help connect people, build communities and protect unique cultures?
  • Opportunity: How can we help people better provide for themselves and their families?
  • Energy: How can we help move the world toward safe, clean, inexpensive energy?
  • Environment: How can we help promote a cleaner and more sustainable global ecosystem?
  • Health: How can we help individuals lead longer, healthier lives?
  • Education: How can we help more people get more access to better education?
  • Shelter: How can we help ensure that everyone has a safe place to live?
  • Everything else: Sometimes the best ideas don’t fit into any category at all.

Criteria:

  • Reach: How many people would this idea affect?
  • Depth: How deeply are people impacted? How urgent is the need?
  • Attainability: Can this idea be implemented within a year or two?
  • Efficiency: How simple and cost-effective is your idea?
  • Longevity: How long will the idea’s impact last?

What and how can you help others by having good ideas?
